Michael Bono, MD, FACS, FASMBS

Dr. Bono, a Bariatric and Board Certified General Surgeon who has conducted over 600 bariatric surgical procedures with positive outcomes, is the first and current president of the Pennsylvania Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery. He received his Doctorate of Medicine from Hahnemann University School of Medicine in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and he completed his postgraduate training including a surgical residency, as well as a Fellowship at the Diabetes Institute at the Eastern Virginia Graduate School of Medicine in Norfolk, VA. In addition to his private, general, and bariatric surgical practice, Dr. Bono is an active staff member at Hazleton General Hospital where he serves as Chief of Surgery. He is a member of the American College of Surgeons and the American Society for Bariatric Surgeons. Dr. Bono has started this region’s first and only support group for those with severe obesity who are considering bariatric surgery. |
Jane Lashock, BS, RN, CBN

Jane received her Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing from Wilkes University in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania. She is the Bariatric Nurse Coordinator for the Northeast Bariatric Center at Hazleton General Hospital and is responsible for coordinating pre-and postsurgery processes for bariatric patients. She heads patient education and obtains insurance pre-authorization. Jane’s devotion and compassion to bariatric patients has enabled her to be a strong facilitator and organizer of the monthly bariatric support groups. Jane is also the referral point person for non-surgical candidates, hospital staff educator, and assures ongoing compliance with Center of Excellence guidelines and requirements. |
Amy Cartwright, MS, RD, LDN

Amy received her Bachelor of Science degree with a concentration in Dietetics and Nutrition from Marywood University in Scranton, Pennsylvania, and later received her Masters of Science degree in Human Nutrition from the University of Bridgeport in Connecticut. She provides a variety of services at the Northeast Bariatric Center, including pre-and postoperative dietary education, co-organization of the support group meetings, and is available to provide nutrition counseling to patients in their long-term recovery process. Amy’s skills as a wellness coach and her vast knowledge as a registered dietitian has enabled her to assist in the development of monthly programs and provide patients with individualized nutrition education. |

A multidisciplinary team of board-certified anesthesiologists, highly-skilled surgical nurses and technicians, as well as acute care nurses, expert therapists, clinical, and support staff at Hazleton General Hospital, are key to the Bariatric team. They are instrumental in your recovery process by providing you with exceptional, safe, and compassionate care. |
