Northeast Bariatric Center

Our Program

My Responsibilities

fit man with an apple

The Northeast Bariatric Center expects its patients to remain proactive in their personal weight-loss journey pre- and postsurgery.

  • Patients are obligated to attend one support group meeting prior to surgery, as well as three annually postsurgery. Bariatric surgery is more than a physical change. There are emotional and mental obstacles that need to be overcome along the way, and for that reason, family and friends are encouraged to attend support group meetings for additional support. It’s been proven that patients who utilize the many services support groups offer are more likely to maximize their weight-loss experience.

  • Patients are required to complete various studies and visit different health consultants to determine your candidacy. Failing to show up for a scheduled appointment without notice hinders the steps to surgery and won’t be tolerated in the program. Because we view this as a potential non-compliance indicator that’s outlined in our comprehensive program, the Northeast Bariatric Center reserves the right to not continue on the road to surgery with you. We understand that emergencies arise, and you may not be able to make the scheduled appointment. A courtesy call to the specialist noting you can’t make the scheduled appointment is acceptable.

  • Patients who smoke must quit smoking at least three (3) months prior to surgery. Morbid obesity and major abdominal surgery can lead to pneumonia or other respiratory complications. Smoking can facilitate infections, as well as the formation of blood clots and ulcers. In addition, cessation of smoking shows a commitment to a healthier lifestyle change.

  • Patients are provided with the tools necessary for successful and healthy weight loss. These tools require a full-hearted commitment on your part, a commitment for life, not just until you lose the weight. Always remember that once you become part of our comprehensive weight-loss program, you’re a patient for life. Dr. Michael Bono and his team require you to visit annually in order to monitor your weight loss and share any additional information that may be pertinent to your continued success as a healthier you.
